One-day medical course taking place at Wythenshawe hospital, South Manchester.

The Course Contents:

• You’ll be faced with emergency scenarios in the A&E department, utilising a SIM mannequin.
• Actors will be playing the part of other members of the A&E department who will guide you in managing these patients – or, they may be there to distract you, as often occurs in reality.
• Your afternoon is a General Practice simulation to better your understanding of primary care. You will have the opportunity to observe simulated consultations as well as get involved in taking histories from patient actors. You will be assessed on your communication skills with the patients.

One-day medical course taking place at Wythenshawe hospital, South Manchester.

The Course Contents:

• Working out of hours, a single doctor can be responsible for around 100 patients. It’s essential to learn how to take calls efficiently, prioritise urgent patients, assess and manage emergencies, and escalate anything quickly and efficiently.
• In this experience, you’ll have the incredible opportunity to follow along with both medical and surgical on calls, answer bleeps, assess and diagnose patients, verify patient death, prescribe medications, and be involved with the management of emergencies through our simulated day in the hospital.
• You’ll also better understand how to triage based on urgency, when to leave in the middle of an assessment for a more urgent case, how to work under pressure, various team roles out of hours, and so much more.
• We’ll set up some patient cases where you will see acutely unwell post-operative patients, a major haemorrhage, a patient needing a cannula or an NG tube, a cardiac arrest, amongst other scenarios. This exclusive simulated day has a limited number of places to get each student the best value.
