Where you’ll live

We want your stay with Premed Projects to be as enjoyable as possible. A huge part of the experience is sharing it with like-minded students, and after a long day we want you to feel relaxed and at home. Your accommodation is at Kentish Town in London, very close to Camden town and is a modern student accommodation with lots of communal space too. Rooms are shared between 2 students with your own ensuite bathroom.

There’s nothing worse than being away somewhere where the food isn’t up to scratch, so we promise you’ll enjoy every mealtime with us. Every morning, we’ll provide a continental buffet breakfast for you with fresh fruit, pastries, fresh juices, cereals and everything in between. This is available from 07:30 am each morning. We’ll take you to a different restaurant that we love each night, with choices ranging from Katsu curries, superfood salads, duck spring rolls, ravioli and more pizza choices than you can shake a stick at.  If you have any dietary requirements, we’re more than happy to cater to them. We’re very used to having students requiring halal food, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices, so you’ll find a suitable choice at every mealtime.

What you’ll do

Whether you’re exploring medicine for the first time or aiming to expand your knowledge, this course is designed to immerse you in the world of healthcare with engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Join us each week, and start building the confidence and skills that future medical careers demand! Here’s a sample itinerary for the week, your exact itinerary will be sent to you 2 weeks before you start but this should give you an idea of how your week will look:

Sunday – You will be collected at either Kings Cross Railway Station or London Heathrow Airport (your choice) by our friendly Project Leaders and transferred to the accommodation with all of the other arrivals. You will then have a couple of hours to unpack, freshen up and get to know your roommate before everyone gets together for Project briefing. During the briefing, we will talk you through everything you need to know, from meal times to curfews and the all-important Wi-Fi password. Then it’s time for our first family feast!

Monday – A fascinating opportunity for all students interested in medical careers- the chance to spend the day in the dissection room in Central London. During the morning, you will receive a tutorial on brain anatomy from one of the world’s leading authorities on neuroanatomy. Using medically donated brain specimens, you will gain a deeper understanding of the human brain and how we can begin to comprehend it. In the afternoon you’ll be ‘hands-on’ with practical sessions in the dissection room. These will provide an exciting and unique opportunity to examine preserved human brain specimens and cadavers

Tuesday – It’s time to learn all about palliative care, spending the day with nurses and GPs in a private nursing home & hospice situated in North London.

Wednesday – At NHS Kings College Hospital you’ll be part of our A&E and GP Surgery Day. You’ll be faced with emergency scenarios in the A&E department, utilising a SIM mannequin with actors playing the part of other members of the A&E department who will guide you in managing these patients – or, they may be there to distract you, as often occurs in reality. Your afternoon is in GP Surgery to better your understanding of primary care. You will have the opportunity to observe consultations as well as get involved in taking histories. You will be assessed on your communication skills with the patients.

Thursday – Back at NHS Kings College Hospital for Ward Rounds and Radiology Day. In the morning, you’ll take part in a realistic ward round scenario with doctors, patient actors, and nursing staff as part of the multidisciplinary team. For the afternoon, we’ll concentrate on Radiology Immersion. You’ll learn about the most common diagnostic modalities and explore the life of a radiologist with scan interpretation.

Friday – You will spend the day at one of London’s best medical schools learning how to write the perfect personal statement to ensure you get an interview, and how to impress the panel to secure your space in medical school. The day will be led by Junior doctors and third-year medical students who have all sat on medical school interview panels, so they really know what they’re talking about. After a final dinner, it’s back to the accommodation for a farewell party.

Saturday – It’s time to say goodbye. We’ll arrange your transfers to Heathrow, or escort you to Kings Cross station to make sure you get home safely, or you are welcome to be collected from the accommodation and just like that, you’ve had an action-packed week exploring medicine, armed with all the knowledge you need to gain a place at med school, with a tonne of experience and references to back it up too.
